HPR7000 traveling wave based fault recording and location system in EHV lines

An assembled transmission line fault location algorithm based on single terminal power quantities is presented in this paper. The basic idea is to identify the accurate fault point based on fault traveling wave and reflecting wave from fault point in the zone, which is limited by the robust impedance fault location algorithm with error less than 10% of line length. And then the location error of assembled algorithm can reach to 1km. A high-precision fault recorder is designed and tested in field, the results prove the good performance of the algorithm.
