Design of the Damping System for OPGW in 1000kV UHV River Crossing Project

1000kV UHV AC experimental project is the first UHV grid in China, which is a milestone of transformation of power grid development. It is one of the most significant project not only in China but also in most regions in the world. OPGW used on the UHA transmission line can occur aeolian vibration, which may result in break of strands or damage of optical fiber. In order to overcome the adverse effect, damping system for the specialty of aeolian vibration should be designed and installed on OPGW. This paper describes the reasons of Aeolian vibration and the theory of anti-vibration. It states the characteristics and the demands of the anti-vibration for OPGW in 1000kV UHV river crossing project. Then describes the procedure and gives the result of lab test for damping systems which has been installed on the 1000kV UHV transmission line.
