Safety Evaluation of Vehicles Parked Under High Voltage Power Lines

Safety evaluation of motor vehicles parked under high voltage power lines has been carried out. The evaluation is based on the computation of the capacitive discharge current through a human body when a person touches a vehicle parked under high voltage power lines. An equivalent circuit model is built, which consists of the power lines as the voltage sources and capacitances between the power lines and the vehicle and between the vehicle and the ground. Electric shock scenarios are examined for vehicles of different sizes parked under power lines at different locations. It is concluded that generally, the capacitive discharge current will not be high enough to cause ventricular fibrillation. The results presented in this paper are of practical importance and can be referenced in similar situations when vehicles are parked under high voltage power lines.
