A Novel Frequency Tracking Algorithm for Power System
As the fundamental frequency of power systems is changing all the time, it is good to have frequency tracking technique in the acquisition system to reduce the spectrum leakage phenomenon when calculating the phasors of current and voltage signals. Whereas with a fixed setting frequency tracking technique used in the commercial product, it is found that its performance is not good enough for application under heavy noise or dynamic conditions. Therefore it needs to be improved the performance to meet the requirement of high accuracy. In this paper a new recursive adaptive frequency tracking algorithm is proposed to improve the performance under stead conditions and dynamic conditions via identifying the state of power systems and changing its setting adaptively. The results of simulation show that proposed algorithm can precisely track the system’s frequency under both steady condition and dynamic condition compared to the algorithm used by the commercial product. Even thought a minor increase in calculation burden is required, this technique provides accurate and fast frequency tracking characteristic without changing the legacy structure of acquisition systems.
