Small Signal Analysis of Subsynchronous Torsional Interactions with TCSC
This paper presents a smallsignal stability analysis on a study system under several cases, to obtain the results of impact of several relevant factors on Subsynchronous Torsional Interactions (SSTI) with Thyristor Controlled Series Capacitor (TCSC). The study system is simplified from a real system and modeled by dynamic phasor method. Two TCSC control methodologies, openloop impedance control and closedloop impedance control are considered in eigenvalue analysis. Moreover comparison is made between two series compensation schemes, Fixed Series Compensator (FSC) and TCSC in series with FSC. The sensitivity of SSTI with TCSC to various system parameters is also discussed. The results show that in the study system there is the potential for excitation of Subsynchronous Oscillations (SSO) with TCSC at some compensation levels. Control methodology and other factors may increase the risk. Aiming at the risky torsional mode, a Supplementary Subsynchronous Damping Controller (SSDC) is designed. Eigenvalue results show the effectiveness of the designed SSDC.
