Experimental Analysis of SSO Suppression with TCSC
This paper presents an experimental analysis about the impact of Thyristor Controlled Series Capacitor (TCSC) on Subsynchronous Oscillations (SSO) suppression. The study is based on a real system and performed with the actual TCSC controller device linked into the simulation system established in Advanced Digital Power System Simulator (ADPSS). Three kinds of TCSC control methodologies are considered in this paper. The results show that in the study system there is the potential for excitation of Subsynchronous Oscillations (SSO) with TCSC under openloop control or closedloop control at some compensation levels, while supplementary impedance deviation control designed for the risky torsional mode could provide significant suppression of SSO.
