Effect of fresh air injection in HRSG on CCPP repowering
In summer the power generation of CCPP decreases due to the decrease in air density, While, the electricity consumption increases during summer in Middle East countries. Therefore it is important to prevent this power reduction in summer. In the present work it is shown that by installing a duct burner and fresh air supplement before the secondary high pressure superheater, the steam generation will be increased. By installing duct burner with no additional air supplement, the increase of steam turbine power output is equal to 7.5MW. In this case the required fuel flow rate is equal to 0.263 Kg/s. The required fuel flow rate increases when the fresh air is added, and the increase in power output is about 12MW. Therefore, the fresh air supply in an HRSG with duct burner increases the allowable fuel flow rate and consequently, the steam turbine output will be increased.
