Estimation of Optimum Location of Lightning Arrestor for Voltage Sags Improvement
In recent years, the influence of voltage sag to electric equipment has raised big issues because of wider utilization of devices that are sensitive to voltage drop of a short amount of time (voltage sag) whose principal cause is the lightning. Then, the voltage sag measures device (lightning arrestor) has attracted attention as a measure to reduce the influence of voltage sag in recent years. It is not economical to set up this lightning arrestor in all transmission lines because it is expensive while very effective in the voltage sags influence reduction. Then, to maintain the quality of power at small cost, in other words, to reduce the influence of the voltage sag in the entire system with a small number of lightning arrestors as much as possible, this paper reports on the technique that shows the most effective lightning arrestor installation transmission line that reduces the voltage sag influence, which is based on voltage drop information gained when the accident happens by each load node of the electric power system.
