Stability Analysis of Wide-area Power System with Multiple Synchronized Phasor Measurements

During past years, power systems are continuously expanding with increasing electric power supplies and distribution systems. Accordingly, they may be facing toward power system instability depending on their system conditions. This paper presents a global monitoring system of wide-area power system by using multiple Phasor Measurement Units (PMUs) via demand side outlets. These PMUs are employed to analyze changes of power system stability in Western Japan power system. Moreover, an improved estimation method of inter-area oscillation characteristics from phase difference between two locations is proposed to precisely estimate power system stability in observation of close distance data like in Kansai Electric Power area. PMUs installed by Kansai Electric Power Company also measure power variation data. Accordingly, we can draw a power-angle curve by plotting power variation against phase difference. Gradient of power-angle curve shows synchronizing power coefficient. Finally, we studied about possibility of a transient stability assessment.
