Algorithm Development for Electricity Supply Fault Level Monitor Applied in Distribution Generation
The fault level represents the short circuit capacity that a power system network flows to the point of short circuit. Due to change of network configuration, the fault level distribution in the power system network changes accordingly. It is not practical to apply overall short circuit calculations to provide real-time fault level distributions. An instrument, called Fault Level Monitor (FLM), was therefore developed. This paper describes the theoretical basis for the FLM and the recent development to fulfil the requirements of distribution generation (DG). The comparison between the fault levels given by the FLM and by power system fault analyses shows great accuracy.
