A new firing method of TCSC to mitigate SSR

In some operating conditions, damping of the electromechanical system to certain leading oscillation modes is relatively weak. The risk of SSR may still exist, although the conventional firing method of TCSC can improve damping to some extent. A new module is proposed to add into the bottom layer control for damping SSR based on hierarchical control structure of TCSC. An additional damping vernier method is realized in the module, through adopting phase offset of capacitor voltage caused by the sub-synchronous frequency component as control input. TCSC frequency impedance characteristic of resistance- inductance to the leading oscillation mode is constructed by additional damping vernier method, and better ability of damping SSR is achieved. The simulation results on the IEEE first benchmark model show that the proposed method is effective.
