Autonomous electric power distribution network restoration system using a standard multi-agent framework

A new autonomous electric power distribution network restoration system using a standard multi-agent framework, JADE, is proposed. The purpose of this study is to extend the power network system to the pure distributed computing environment so that it has fault tolerance. The state of the art of this study is that the contract net protocol (CNP) is applied for the distributed computing environment in practical use. First, this study has the system have two classes of agents, named field agent and operating agent in the network. The operating agent is employed for controlling privilege for managers to send the task announcement messages in CNP. The power network is segmented into parts called area, and each area is observed by each field agent. This architecture enables you to prevent the inter-task interference in CNP when agents execute asynchronously in parallel with others. Then, in order to implement the system, this study adopts JADE (Java Agent DEvelopment) framework. JADE is a de facto standard multi-agent framework which enables to adapt to various environments and realize interoperability among other devices. This study conducts simulation experiments of power distribution network restoration by using the pure distributed architecture and compared the proposed method with the previous architecture which assumes synchronous message. The simulation results show the proposed method marks nearly equal performance to the previous method under the pure distributed environment.
