An Intelligent Control Strategy for Reactive Power of DFIG in Wind Generation
The doubly-fed induction generator (DFIG) is widely used in the variable-speed constant-frequency wind power generation system with the vector control scheme. Usually, the reactive power reference is set to zero and the generator runs in Unity Power Factor (UPF) mode. The special reactive ability of DFIG is neglected in the UPF control strategy and considerable apparent power is wasted. An intelligent control strategy for reactive power of DFIG based on the traditional vector control scheme is proposed in this paper. The reactive component of grid-side is still set to zero. The reference of reactive power in rotor-side is regulated by an intelligent reference model which has three modes: Local Voltage Control (LVC) mode, Power Factor Control (PFC) mode and UPF mode. The mode is switched automatically by intelligent control strategy according to the measurements of voltage and power factor at the PCC of wind farm. The simulation results showed the improvement in utilization factor using reactive power of DFIG.
