Voltage Controlled Islanding Protection Based On Carrier Signal

Islanding protection by detecting the power line carrier signal, which is injected at the bus bar, has higher reliability, easy to implement, and the investment is relatively low. The existing protection may fail to operate when the bus is islanded and mal-operate during grid faults. A voltage controlled islanding protection based on carrier signal is proposed. It stops the transmission of carrier signal when a bus islanding is detected and blocks the trip of the protection when the voltage is lower than a threshold. Theoretical analysis and simulation results on ATP show that the proposed fault lockout islanding protection based on carrier signal can detect islanding reliably and sensitively, and it can avoid non-detection zone completely.
