A New Protection Scheme for Distribution System with Distributed Generations
After distributed generation (DG) connected to the distribution system, it may have effect on the traditional current protection, leading to maloperation. A new protection scheme is introduced to solve this problem by improving the traditional protection configuration. According to the location of DGs, the feeders are divided into different zones. Directional pilot protection is configured at the upstream side of DG as the major protection, and the overcurrent protection is retained for the whole feeder as the backup protection. In order to be convenient for value setting and clear the fault quickly, definite-time or inverse-time overcurrent protection is adopted for the feeder based on different locations of DGs. No matter how the output power of the DG changes, the fault can be cleared reliably with this protection scheme. Based on the 10kV distribution model, the result is confirmed by the simulation.
