The Numerical Study on the Flow Characteristics of the Last Stage Hollow Stationary Blades with Suction Slot of Nuclear Power Plant Turbine

Focusing on the fact that the suction slots are widely designed on the last hollow stationary blades of the low pressure cylinder in nuclear power plant steam turbine to prevent water erosion of the blades, the pump process and mechanism by suction slots were analyzed in this paper at first. Then, FLUENT was used for numerical simulation of the flow field near the blades without suction slots. In addition, the movement law, the distribution law of location and volume of sediment of water droplets of different size were studied. Consequently, the best location for the suction slot was determined. The flow field near the blades with suction slots was simulated, the simulating results showed that a small suction slot angle can increase the water removal efficiency. In the simulating condition of this paper, the water removal efficiency reached the highest value, about 28% to 30%, when the suction slot angle was 45°. The relationship between the geometry and size of suction slot and the water removal efficiency were also discussed: It was found that the stationary blades with knuckle in front edge of suction slots had higher water removal efficiency. It was recommended that a reasonable slot width range should be 2.5mm to 3.5mm. At last, the impact of mainstream field by suction slot was analyzed in detail.
