Study on the Photovoltaic- Water Electrolyzer system Connected to Grid
We have focused on photovoltaic as energy resource and hydrogen as an energy carrier. In this paper, we have proposed PV-WE system that efficiently generates hydrogen by controlling the number of water electrolysis cells under directly coupling photovoltaic and electrolyzers. Since it connects directly, loss can be reduced as an advantage. In the previous research, high MPPT efficiency was experimentally reached by the I-V estimation method in which the characteristic of the PV are estimated from the insolation and the temperature of PV modules. At first, we investigated the stand alone PV-WE system (without grid), we propose new several operation methods, and the comparisons of operation methods are carried out. Next, we investigated the PV-WE system connected to the grid. Here, PV and WE are directly connected by DC power, without using the power conditioner for PV. The operation point of PV depends on the characteristics of water electrolyzer and inverter for the grid connecting. As a result, the PV-WE system connected to the grid could be controlled by the proposed method experimentally.
