Design Parameter Analysis of Universal Motor for Vacuum Cleaning Machine

This paper presents a computer aided analysis for the universal motor performance and brush commutation. The model consists of a set of flux linkage based differential equations. Time stepping integration method and 2D finite element field solutions are used for solving the system. An arcing model is introduced into the system to predict brush switched commutation and the torque ripples. Computed results are plotted for a one armature coil per slot motor.
