Series Arc Detection in Inverter-Driven Air Conditioners
Annually, electrical fires caused by arcing phenomena rapidly increase as the use of more electric appliances, but there is no established method for the detection of arcing which may hazardously cause insulation or nearby combustible materials to catch on fire. In this paper, we experimentally studied the detection of arc pulse caused by unstable connection in inverter-driven air conditioners which generate high frequency noise similar to arc pulse during operation. An arc detection circuit which separate the series arc signal from the power frequency and noise was designed and fabricated. From the experimental results, we could find that the output voltage of the circuit varied at random during arc state, and proposed a detection method of series arc by using the chaotic nature of voltage signals.
