A Novel Light Intensity Modulation Curvature Fiber Optic Sensor
A light intensity modulation fiber optic sensor is developed, which can measure curvature directly. It is very suitable for thin structural, high flexibility and embedded measurements. Experiments that research on static and dynamic characteristics of sensor are done, which show that the output of sensor is polar and linear with curvature when the curvature radius is larger than 60mm. Based on the theory that aperture angle of each point on the section of bending fiber is different from each other, principle and mathematical models of sensor are proposed. Curvature fiber optic sensors can be used to build a quasi-distributed fiber optic sensor system, which can measure curvature and torsion angle simultaneously.
