Recent Advances in the Zonal Disintegrarion Phenomenon in theDeep Rock Mass Engineering
With the development of national economy and defense, the depth of underground rock engineering becomes deeper and deeper, such as mines with depth of thousand to several thousands meters(for example, Jinchuan nickel mines and golden mines in South Africa). The engineering response of deep rock mass shows several new characteristic scientific phenomenon. Besides the deep rock explosion and large deformation of tunnel in squeezing ground, the phenomenon of zonal disintegration attracts the attentions of scholars and engineers in the fields of geotechnical engineering and rock mechanics internationally. In the process of excavation of caves and tunnels in the deep-level rock deposits, alternative fractured and non-fractured zones occur around the tunnels and ahead of their faces, this phenomenon is called phenomenon of zonal disintegration. The study on the phenomenon of zonal disintegration around the deep tunnels can be classified into three stages. The first is in-situ observations and model tests stage. The second is the mechanism studies stage. The third is theoretical analysis and numerical simulation stage.Finnally, recent advances in the zonal disintegrarion phenomenon are summarized in the paper.
