ESTABLISH A HARMONIOUS HYDROPOWER DEVELOPMENTMODE THROUGH EQUAL EMPHASIS ON DEVELOPMENT AND PROTECTION
China’s abundant hydropower resources play an important role in the country’s energy structure.Scientific development and proper utilization of the hydropower resources will have great significance for sustainable development of China’s socio-economy.In recent years，China’s hydropower development has broken through the bottleneck of technology and capital，achieving a fast development. However,issues on resettlement and ecology are emerging and becoming new critical factors that will impact Chma’s hydropower development.A harmonious hydropower development mode，with equal attention to both development and protection,established through alteration of our development concept and enhancement of our environment protection consciousness and technical levels，is becoming the right way for sustainable development of China’s hydropower. As authorized by the Chinese government,Ertan Hydropower Development Company,Ltd.(EHDC) is responsible for development of the hydropower resources of the Yalong River,and for construction and operation of the cascade power stations.During the development process，EHDC，persisting in the principle of equal emphasis on both development and protection，has undertaken a great deal of practice in environment protection of hydropower development and has made certain achievements. This article gives a presentation of the concept and mode for harmonious development that have been established during the development process as well as the environmental benefits that have been achieved,which can be of reference for obtaining the harmony between hydropower development and environment protection.
