LESSONS FROM KOBE EARTHQUAKE IN JAPANESE DAMEARTHQUAKE ENGINEERING
In this paper,we introduce an outline of damage to the infrastructures by recent large earthquakes including the Kobe Earthquake, and lessons in Japanese dam earthquake engineering from these earthquakes. We also make a brief explanation ofDraft of Guidelines for Seismic Safety Evaluation of Dams, and show some dynamic analyses for seismic performance evaluation of dams.In addition, the recent related research activities and case histories of seismic reinforcement of existing dams are introduced.
