A COMPARISON AMONG FORCES EXERTED ON HYDRAULIC JUMPS IN WATER RESOURCES/HYDROPOWER WORKS’DESIGN
In this experimental study a comparison is presented among the forces exerted along a number of flows, concerning three inclined(angleψ) steady hydraulic jumps, such as over sills, free and repelled iumps as well,in terms of a suitable dimensionless force coefficient versus Froude numbers,Fr1.The determination of these forces is indirect, mainly based on water weight component measurements under corresponding free surface profiles and conjugate depths ratios as well. All measurements and results are systematic, while in the case ofjumps over sills they give both the force exerted by the sill and the tractive force by the channel boundaries. All diagrams presented herein may directly be used by the hydraulic engineer, since they are in suitable scales, in water resources/hydropower works’design.
