ADAPTABILITY OF SLAB JOINT WATERSTOPS TO FUTURE HIGHER CFRD

Due to its good sealing effect,the waterstop structure of Foz do Areia type has been chosen ever since 1980s by most of the CFRDs in the world.According to the construction of 200-meter high CFRDs in China,suitable sealant mastic has been developed,and corresponding technical standard has been put forward.To the copper strip and rubber waterstop,technical specification of waterstop has also been issued in China.Based upon these standards,it has shown by experiment that the sealant mastic,waterstop of copper and rubber,if properly designed,could meet the demand of even higher CFRD.To the present 200-meter high CFRD,vertical slab joint could be ruptured due to large compression in slab.According to analysis of Mohale CFRD,this rupture can be avoided by a suitable design of joint filler to eliminate the concentrated joint compression.The filling density of sealant mastic is vital and can be greatly improved by adopting an extruder machine,which can give a best result without any porosity in the sealant mastic.
