HYDROLOGICAL EFFECTS FOR THREE GoRGES DAM ON FOUR MAJOR CHINESE CARPS SPAWNING IN THE UPPPER AND MIDDLE REACH OF THE YANGTZE RIVER
The four major species of Chinese carp(FCC),black carp(Mylopharyngodon piceus),grass carp(Ctenopharyngodon idellus),silver carp (Hypophthalmichthys molitrix)and big head (Aristichthys mobilis),are main fishes in the Yangtze Riven Flowing water iS the most important factor for the propagations of the FCC.Furthermore, the process of rising flows is considered as one major factor affecting the FCC spawning(Yu, 1988).Egg size of the FCC is 4.9~6.0 mm, spawn must be kept floating in the water with a certain flow velocity.For the FCC fry,it can swim safety after its growth time over 110 hr,Mylopharyngodon piceus is 109 hr,Ctenopharyngodon idellus is 139 hr,Hypophthalmichthys mofitrix is 106 hr,and Aristichthys mobilis is 111 hr.
