REFLECTION ON THE WENCHUAN EARTHQUAKE
The Sichuan-Yunnan region of mainland China is prone to strong and highly frequent earthquakes.It has become one of the areas with active seismicity in the mainland China. Earthquake prediction is generally recognized as one of the scientific problems those are hard to resolve.Nevertheless，although earthquake is hardly possible to predict，we can take active measures to prevent and reduce the damages earthquakes bring to human beings.In this paper, drawing on the experience of Japan，the author concludes that people should make efforts from both hardware and softwareaspects to prevent the disasters.The so-calledhardwareis mainly referred to as construction supervision and quality control system；on the other hand，softwareis to call for every citizen’s sense of responsibility and to increase their awareness of disaster prevention so as to truly realize a people-oriented society.Such efforts have universal significance for other aspects of the society.
