The Argument for International Entrepreneurship in the Knowledge Economy

Executive Summary This paper examines the challenges confronting SMEs in skills upgrading. Measures bridging the supply of general training by universities and the demand for idiosyncratic skills on the part of SMEs should be paralleled by those that can provide more effective mobilisation by firms of external professional service providers. Science parks and incubators can play a crucial role in devising a comprehensive approach, requiring an effective interface vis-à-vis both academia and business. Reviewing the experience of the Science Park of J?nk?ping University, the paper presents lessons and conclusions how relevant capabilities and effective matching roles may be cherished.
