From local to global: How can a technopole strengthen the innovation networks within its territory? A case study in France

This paper intends to illustrate how different organisations (STP’s, technopoles, business incubators) sharing the same missions, are leading actors for innovation networks. To illustrate this point, this paper presents the dynamic initiated in France within the French Innovation Network FTEI. Furthermore, we’ll try to illustrate how a technopole can foster a local innovation network to support the creation of start-up company, the development of a regional cluster and the creation of a dedicated international innovative network. Even if the word is easily understood, the French concept of Technopole remained untill the last few years quite different from the dominant science & technology park Anglo-Saxon model. In fact, whatever the name they are given (STP’s, technopoles, business incubators, etc ...), considering their aims, missions and operational processes, these organisations are getting closer and closer everyday. They can be seen as the pillars of many local / regional innovation networks and, as an international community of actors, they are also a global innovation system.
