The “Oasis Way: How to Improve the Productivity of a Knowledge Worker
Business and work life have changed significantly during the last decade. In a country like Finland, resources are quantitatively limited. This forces the Finnish society to make determined strategic choices. To achieve favourable results, a shared view and, most of all, smooth cooperation are needed. To be successful in international competition, the society as a whole must work optimally when it comes to innovations and business processes. The key challenge is how to incorporate the theories and the praxis fruitfully. A concrete example is provided by the netWork Oasis Project started at the Joensuu Science Park, Finland, in the autumn of 2003. The project approaches the problem of innovations, productivity, knowledge workers and regional attractiveness through the three “i’s of (1) instruments, (2) interiors, and (3) interactions. The main philosophy behind the project consists of certain elements, such as (1) holistic approach to work and life, (2) the work-life balance, (3) different roles and identities of creative people, and (4) the effective tools of today’s knowledge worker.
