Design and Operation of Business Incubation Systems within the Knowledge-based Society

This paper advocates that: (A) In order to be successful, a Business Incubator must be conceived and planned according to an adequate set of directives. (B) The generation of these directives stems from a complex conceptual framework. (C) The construction of this framework requires innovative methodologies and encompasses the conjugation of several factors such as local context analysis, characteristics of the Knowledge-based Society, and lessons from paradigm transitions. This paper is based on the authors’ experience on the setting up Business Incubator Systems in Brazil and other developing countries, supported by the Methodology of Innovative Regional Development (1 to 9).
