The Challenges Facing Africa in E-Business Development

E-business offers buyers and sellers a new form of communication and provides an opportunity to create new marketplaces. In the emerging global economy, e-commerce and e-business have increasingly become a necessary component of business strategy and a strong catalyst for economic development. The integration of information and communications technology (ICT) in business has revolutionized relationships within organizations and those between and among organizations and individuals. Specifically, the use of ICT in business has enhanced productivity, encouraged greater customer participation, and enabled mass customization, besides reducing costs. This paper aims at reviewing the literature on e-Business and analyzes the challenges facing Africa when it comes to e-Business and why it seems the continent’s use of e-Business is low. It also aimed at informing interested investors in Africa of the challenges as well as the opportunities in e-Business in Africa. The paper discussed some barriers to e-Business adoption, Challenges related to e-Business in Africa and the opportunities available.
