ERP Adoption in Traditional Chinese SMEs: An Ezploratory Case Study

Considering most of the existing studies on Enterprise Resources Planning (ERP) in China were conducted in the context of large state-own or foreign invested companies, this exploratory case study focuses on a new group of organizations: the Chinese small and medium enterprises (SME), which have recently demonstrated considerable interest in ERP philosophy. By documenting the adopting process of a small feed manufacturer, we identified the uniqueness of Chinese SMEs in terms of cultural influence, technology competences, project management experiences, and the availability of organizational resources. The implications of these characteristics are also discussed. It is thus suggested that Chinese SMEs design a different set of adoption procedures for their ERP projects.
