Research on the Effect of IT Capability on Competitive Advantage: A Resource-based View
With the dramatic development of information technology and the more and more severe competition, all the enterprises wish they would obtain competitive advantage from IT investment. It provides a new point that the resource-based view and enterprise capability theory have been introduced into IS field. This paper descripts the resource-based view theory firstly, and then distinguishes the two basic concepts of IT resource and IT capability. On the basis of this, the paper adopts the view of the IT indirectly impact competitive advantage and proposes a concept model about the effect of IT capability on competitive advantage. In the concept model, IT resources include IT asset and IT capability and the latter divide into IT infrastructure, IT human resource, and IT relationship. At the end of this paper, limitations and future direction have been pointed.
