SIMULATION ANALYSIS OF UNDERWATER TAPERED-BORE GUN BASED ON FINITE ELEMENT TECHNOLOGY

Compared to ordinary Straight-chamber gun, Taperedbore gun can not only launch the Projectile with higher ballistic initial velocity, but also extruded to formed Supercavitating Projectiles with high slenderness radio. However, due to the existence of the part of tapered bore, the projectile during Underwater Tapered-bore Gun interior period is not only received a pushing effect of powder gases, but also occurred deformation, therefore the classical interior ballistics can not be analog simulated easily in the design of tapered-bore gun. For the special structure of underwater tapered-bore gun, the underwater tapered-bore gun interior period can be divided into three phases, namely, First Straightchamber portion, The tapered-bore portion, Second Straight-chamber portion. According to the characteristtic of tapered-bore gun canal, based analysis of the inteior ballistic stress in different stage, the underwater tapered-bore gun interior period were simulated by combined with the mathematical software-Matlab and the finite element analytical software LS-DYNA, Gun Press-displacement curve, projectile bodys Acceleration-time curve, and velocity-time curve are obtained. In order to verify the simulation results, we have carried out Underwater Tapered-bore gun experimentation about launch Supercavitating Projectiles. The result of experimentation matched well simulation curve. The theoretical and experimental results show that the underwater tapered-bore gun can launch Projectile containing projectile-sabot, using the finite element simulation and the numerical simulation can solved tapered-bore gun inteior ballistic simulation issues, provides a new calculation method for design and calculation of underwater taper-bore gun interior ballistic, and provides a theoretical basis for launch Supercavitating Projectiles.
