PROJECTILE MANUFACTURING ERROR LOCATION EFFECT ON DISPERSION

A projectile manufacturing error effect on the dispersion of round was investigated. At first, a generic projectile model with a controlled mass asymmetry was created. Next, the effects on the projectile trajectory were found out by performing 6DOF trajectory simulations. Both projectile part flaws, at the nose or at the rear, caused initial disturbances at the beginning of the flight. However, in the former case the disturbance effects were seen to be cancelled by projectile oscillation, inside a few meters travel from barrel. The effect on the flight path was negligible. In the latter case, the oscillation had a reversal error gaining effect and the projectile was seen to shift from the flawless trajectory path, right after the launch. Based on the results obtained, it seems that in order to minimize the dispersion the projectile manufacturing technology should be chosen in such a way that the rear part flaws could be avoided.
