INVESTIGATION ON THE ROLLING CHARACTERISTICS OF EXTENDED-RANGE PROJECTILE WITH CANARD CONFIGURATION

The extended-range projectile was studied by wind tunnel test, which focused on the influence of the projectiles rolling characteristics of different configurations at different speeds and angle of attack. Experimental results showed that the canards were effective as roll control devices for canardcontrolled projectile with large aspect ratio, sweep angle and backward dimensional postions, and the adverse induced rolling moment could be much reduced, this allowed the canards to execute the roll control; another important factor which influenced the roll control was tail fins, the projectile with T-shaped fins showed good rolling characteristics in transonic flow at large angle of attack, and its capable of executing the roll control in supersonic flow for the projectile with grid fins. Wind tunnel test showed that it was ameliorated the extended-range projectiles roll control by changing aerodynamic configuration, which provided reference for the pneumatic design of canard surface and tail fins of extended-range projectile.
