AERODYNAMICS OF RANGE REDUCTION
The need to validate research without resorting to expensive full scale rounds and extensive and often limited test range facilities prompted the investigation of range reduction concepts. Most of the range reduced projectile concepts merely serves as a test bed for the evaluation of subsystems and hence the exterior ballistics is generally of little interest, except when range safety needs to be certified. This paper explores some of the often neglected aerodynamic aspects of these range inhibited projectile concepts in order to provide the exterior ballistician with some information to hazard an educated estimate as to the performance of these concepts.
