THE AERODYNAMIC ANALYSIS AND NUMERICAL SIMULATION FOR FLUTTERING AND TUMBLING PLATES
The motion of a plate in fluid is investigated by introducing a new aerodynamic model. The numerical method coupling the three degrees of freedom flight mechanics equations and the two-dimensional incompressible Navier-Stokes equations is developed which could be used to predict the fluttering and tumbling characteristics of a free falling, twodimensional flat plate. In the case of two or more plates in fluid area, a stochastic collision model is established to investigate the impact among plates. The trajectory of a free falling autorotating plate is given by solving the system of equations describing the flight mechanics. The computational results of collision model reveal the aerodynamic interferential elements among plates. This method provides a new approach to solve the ordinary probleM that two-dimensional objects fall in fluid at an angle of attack and could be applied in project fields widely.
