THE FINITE ELEMENT ANALYSIS OF THE STRENGTH FAILURE OF A HVAPDSFS PROJECTILE IN THE ABRADED BARREL
In this paper, we have researched the strength failure phenomena of a 105mm HVAPDSFS (Hypervelocity armor-piercing discarding sabot fin stabilized)projectile during being launched in a abraded barrel. The finite element analysis software is used to calculate and analyze the strength. We have discussed two kinds of situations: the projectile was launched in a normal barrel and the projectile was launched in a abraded barrel which was used in our test. On the basis of the result, we have concluded that the reason of the strength failure of rod penetrator during launching was that the barrel was overabraded. In the end, we have discussed that the effect of abrasion of the barrel on launching security.
