STUDY ON FRAGMENT PROJECTION ANGLE OF D-SHAPED WARHEAD

Depending on the deforming charge, explosive deformable warhead will form either a D-shaped or a non-D-shaped configuration. D-shaped configuration has a higher fragment density on target direction than non-D-shaped geometry. Predicting the fragmental projection angle is necessary to evaluate the lethality of warhead. Based on validation by numerical simulation, structure of the D-shaped warhead was equivalent to single-layer preformed fragments. Considering the characteristic of D-shaped configuration, a modified Taylor angle model was proposed, and the parameters of the model were confirmed according to the experimental results. Besides D-shaped warhead, the modified model was applied to calculate the fragmental projection angle of deformable warhead. Fragment distribution of a deformable warhead experiment was calculated using the model, and the calculated results showed be agree with the experimental data well.
