THE SCALING OF PEAK OVER-PRESSURE OF SMALL CYLINDRICAL CHARGES

Small cylindrical charges (with diameter to height ratio of 2 to 1) were detonated in the centre of the rear surface and the side-on pressure of the blast wave is measured at 300mm, 480mm and 600m. The geometric similarity of these charges (4g, 16.4g and 32g PE4) is analysed in this paper with regard to peak over-pressures, time of arrival of the shock pulse at the scaled locations, the positive phase impulse and the time duration of the positive phase. The measured results are compared with a computational analysis done with ANSYS AUTODYN. Although some variance is found amongst the results, geometric similarity is confirmed in terms of peak over-pressure, arrival times, positive phase impulse and positive phase duration.
