PRACTICAL IMPLEMENTATION OF GAP TEST FOR DETONATION TRAIN RELIABILITY

The commonly known penalty methods for determining the detonation transfer probability, as Varicomp or Bruceton, often require detailed knowledge of detonation parameters and cost sensitive arrangements. In the current work a new penalty method application is demonstrated. The main concept includes increasing the gap between the donor and acceptor charges. The gap (penalty) remains unchanged in all tested samples. The number of tested samples (usually 7 to 10) and severity of the penalty are mathematically related to the reliability of detonation transfer. The main advantage of the new approach is that no substitution of charges or detailed knowledge of physical parameters (e.g. detonation pressure) is required. Since increasing the gap between the donor and acceptor charges is, in many cases, relatively simple, the presented method can be used as a fast and effective tool in different stages of development.
