EXPERIMENTAL AND NUMERICAL METHODS FOR EVALUATING MINE EXPLOSION SAFETY SEATS

Crew survivability, in case of mine blast events, is a crucial selective parameter in the majority of recent enhances survivability projects the industry encounters. Blast Safety seats became an essential component to be used in all armored land platforms. A numerical simulation system for evaluating of the safety seats performance under real blast loadings was developed utilizing LS-DYNa software. The developed experimental method exposed in this article may serve as a complementary procedure to the standard drop test and is recommended for use as a second stage process towards needed full scale crew compartment test. A synergy between the experimental and the numerical analyses tools is used for the ATD measured results evaluation and predictive survivability values vs. threshold injury criteria.
