HIGH-VELOCITY PENETRATION OF A GROUP OF EXTENDED PROJECTILES INTO METAL TARGETS
Results of experimental investigations and numerical modelling of a simultaneous impact by a group of extended projectiles are presented. The projectiles and the target were manufactured of aluminium alloys; impact velocity was between 1.0-1.5 km/s. Groups included 3, 4 or 7 4-mm diameter projectiles. Influence of distance between the projectiles on penetration depth and cavern volume was examined. Impact conditions producing maximal effect (number of projectiles, distance between them) were shown. It was obtained that penetration depth of central projectile exceeds penetration depth of peripheral projectiles by 7%-10%.
