STUDY ON FRAGMENTATION AND DEBRIES DISTRIBUTION OF PELE PROJECTILE PERFORATING THIN TARGET
The fragmentation of penetrator with enhanced lateral efficiency (PELE) perforating thin RHA target was investigated through theoretical, numerical and experimental method. An Energy-limited spall (ELS)based analytical model of dynamic fragmentation was developed to predict debris mass distribution of PELe with different cores and impact velocity. The explicit finite element (FE)-Analysis of Flaw-limited spall(FLS) with Stochastic model which based on Mott statistical distribution was also adopt to compute the fragmentation of PELE projectile by AUT0DYN-3d Code. To verify the accuracy of theory calculation and numerical simulation, experimental setup of PELe perforating thin RHA target was carried out, and debris were collected with a recycle cabin. The theoretical formula shows good consistency with experimental data, in which the influence of different cores is represented by a scaling factor X. Explicit FE model also obtain fine results in description of the fragmentation phenomena. The number-mass distribution of fragments indicated that the debris from shell expansion by inert core can be predicted precisely through both energy-limited approach and flaw-limited method.
