IED-MINE THREATS
A special threat in foreign terrain are the anti tank mines. The existing vehicles are remarkably strengthened and improved against this load from the bottom. Detonations beneath the wheels or tracks in direct or near contact give an extreme overmatch and is pushing the materials away, but these parts are damping the load against the hull. Detonations beneath the belly plate are more dangerous, if not large clearances and wedge shape of the bottom plate are present. To design vehicles against such loads it is useful or necessary to know the threat potentials. The author has developed a test method to measure quantitatively the impulse distribution around the mine axis and to get also the integral value of anti tank mines or of culvert mines as function of different parameters both from the energy source and ground configurations. The developed diagnostic techniques and the achieved results are described.
