The Future of Print and the Digital Printing Revolution

The paperless office, presented as the imminent future by Business Week in 1975 has clearly not occured. In many places the key change is not that paper is being used less but that it is used differently. We will talk about the trends in paper use and the forces that are shaping how paper is used and ultimately the demand for paper documents. Paper is no longer just static repository but is becoming more active at the on-ramp and offramps of the growing web infrastructure through the use of scanners, sophisticated multifunction devices and OCR. Increasingly we speak of smart documents. We will use the data to explore how the technologies we are developing can and will materially change our relationship with print, information and document intensive work practices and services.
