Preparation and Characterization of Microcapsules with Compact Wall Structure for Electrophoretic Displays
E-paper has good market for “electron reader. Many efforts focused on the microcapsules with compact wall structure for electrophoresis displays. In this work, the microcapsules with compact walls were prepared from gelatin (GE), sodium lauryl sulfonate (SLS) and sodium carboxymethylcellulose (NaCMC) by complex coacervation. The fabrication was optimized by adjusting the amount of concentration of SLS in the system. Microcapsules were characterized by optical microscopy, scanning electron microscopy and thermogravimetric analysis. SLS was found to play an important role during the microcapsule formation. Elastic and optical transparent microcapsules were obtained in the case of 1.0 mM SLS addition. Morever, GE/NaCMC/SLS microcapsules own the highest thermal stability and the best barrier property.
