Research on Color Uniformity of Tiled Multiple Projectors Display System

Large format, high-resolution and high-intensity tiled multiple projectors display systems are becoming increasingly important for graphic-image visualization, virtual simulation and some other related research fields. The research on color uniformity of this system is being paid more and more attention in related fields. Taking the tiled two-projector display system as a case, the color calibration method based on the principle of color management was carried on to achieve color uniformity. In the non-overlapping area, a colorimeter was used to measure the chromaticity values of standard color targets. The measured data were fitted using Least-squares method to get the gamma cures and chromatic transform matrixes respectively for the two projectors, and the ICC profiles for the two projectors were created at real-time. The color uniformity in the non-overlapping area was achieved using the ICC profiles by color gamut mapping. Intensity of the overlapping area was increased due to the light superposition of the projectors, so a method based on sectoring parabola interpretation algorithm was applied to adjust the intensity of the entire system in virtue of Quest3D software. The research result is a software system for adjusting color uniformity of multiple projectors display system, which can be used directly to calibrate color non-uniformity caused by various reasons.
